SPRING - SUMMER 2022
“On the eastern fields
I can see the mirage of morning rise.
Turning around,
Isee the moon sink in the west. ”
(Hitomaro Kakinomoto, Manyoushu 1 , 48, )
Songs and poetry have always had a great impact on cultural formation as a source of aesthetic sense throughout Japanese long history. Particularly, Kakinomoto Hitomaro, a poet from the Asuka period, appears in front of us even today like an elusive and mysterious MIRAGE. As if to suggest the aesthetics of ambiguity to a highly controlled technological society. For this season, we praise Hitomaro's aesthetic sense by pairing the spangles that present MIRAGE which appear in Hitomaro's poem with leather.
This season's visuals have been created in collaboration with the artist as well as musician Jukan Tateisi. He is specialised in installation art using Artificial Intelligence, 3D audio and performance, aimed to reconcile the dichotomic boundaries such as virtual and real, or nature and artefacts. As one of these various works, this wonderful collaboration with Maison Lexia has been realized.
